
April 2026 marked a definitive turning point in Stefano Rossi career with a high-stakes conducting debut at the Romanian National Opera, Iași. Demonstrating exceptional artistic maturity and nerves of steel, he was called by David Crescenzi to step in on a short notice to conduct the general rehearsal of Verdi’s Aida.
Stefano Rossi is a rising presence on the international conducting scene, most recently recognized as a shortlisted assistant conductor for the 2026 Savonlinna Opera Festival Finland. Stefano Rossi has recently been assistant conductor of Michele Mariotti (chief conductor Opera di Roma–Rai orchestra) collaborating with Bolzano Haydn Stiftung orchestra and Teatro Maggio musicale Fiorentino. Stefano has also recently been assistant conductor of David Crescenzi at Opera Națională Română Cluj-Napoca Verdi Simon Boccanegra, Opera Națională Română din Timișoara- Verdi Il Trovatore .
Shortlisted among 30 candidates world 59th Besançon International Competition for Young conductors 2025, In 2022 he won 4th prize at Nino Rota Conducting competition in Matera, second prize at Vienna Caneres International Competition and received the Michael Beech prize for distinction in Conducting at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
He has been assistant conductor of Christopher Bucknall at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire at the opera “Die Zauberflöte” production, working with the extraordinary director Michael Barry, from Royal Opera House in London.
He has collaborated in Venezia with Maestro Abzal Mukhitdin, principal conductor of the Astana Opera Theatre in Kazakhstan, Ramon Vargas, world-renewed tenor and soprano Barbara Frittoli.
During his time in Finland, Stefano has collaborated with high-quality conductors such as Jorma Panula, Mikko Frank, Hannu Lintu, Leif Segerstam, and Sakari Oramo.
Stefano’s technical foundation is further enriched by an extensive series of international masterclasses across Europe. He has refined his craft under the guidance of Maestro Jorma Panula and has conducted prominent ensembles including the Málaga Philharmonic (with Antonio Silva), the Berlin Sinfonietta (with Johannes Wildner), the Athens Philharmonia (with Michalis Economou), and the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina (with Giuseppe Lanzetta).
Stefano Rossi has completed the Orchestra Conducting Postgraduate at the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, one of the finest Conservatoire facilities in the United Kingdom.
Among his teachers are Daniele Rosina and Michael Seal, associate conductor of City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra UK. Stefano studied oboe in Milan’s Conservatoire G. Verdi for ten years with M° Diego Dini Ciacci. He studied Composition and score reading with M° Irlando Danieli and M° Simone Fermani.
